While I’ve been using Fedora 36 for the last week or so as I finish up this post, I’ve found that it performs quite well on my ThinkBook 15 ITL Gen2 and even with the odd quirk that you would expect from a bleeding edge distribution, it’s been quite usable.

I also tried the KDE version on my Yoga 900 ISK2, and while Fedora KDE has been quite broken recently, it’s looking way up in Fedora 36. I did not run into any substantial issues, and the infamously bad HiDPI support is even gone. KDE and all of the apps properly scale to the correct size for that display. Previously, GNOME was the only desktop environment on GNU/Linux that worked right.

For the first time in my experience can I say that everything worked right out of the box. Had to install Nvidia drivers separately but that was to be expected and done very easily. I go back and forth between Windows and different distributions but this time I think I’m going to stick with Fedora for the foreseeable future. Gnome Boxes is great, trackpad gestures and general work flow is awesome. It really feels like a polished operating system that can contend with Windows or MacOS. In the past I had issues with other Lenovo laptops (Yoga 7i) and Fedora. Mainly audio drivers and not being able to get audio working for the longest time. I believe that was eventually addressed. No such issues to speak of with Fedora 36 on a Thinkpad P1 Gen 4. Even Steam and Steam games run great. Needless to say, I’m very happy with Fedora 36.
