CentOS Stream
We've done a lot of work over the past few weeks to keep up to date with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Development. Currently Red Hat is in the middle of the development cycle for the upcoming RHEL 8.3, and you should be seeing some content from 8.3 reflected in CentOS Stream. Expect to see more content coming through as we add more modules. There is an updated installer and refreshed install media on the mirrors for you to try right now!

RealTime in CentOS Stream
One major addition to CentOS Stream is the RealTime (RT) repository. This is a set of packages that is developed alongside Red Hat Enterprise Linux, focused on latency-sensitive workloads. Because these packages are developed so closely with a given RHEL release, it makes perfect sense to include these packages in and gather feedback from CentOS Stream. The packages in the RealTime repository represent what's coming in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Real Time addon for RHEL 8.3.

Обнових - 330 пакета. Без проблеми:

За какво ти е да ползваш real-time ядро за десктоп инсталация? То това дори би било доста по не-продуктивно. Real-time ти дава гаранция, че нещата ще се изпълнят в реда в който си ги пуснал към ядрото, а в случаите за десктоп и сървър - ти определено не искаш да е така в 99 процента от случаите

Using the CentOSPlus repository is more dangerous than using other CentOS repositories, as it is designed to have several updated packages and it is not really designed to be completely enabled.

You can use all the packages in CentOSPlus, but normally one will pick only the packages they are looking for and use exclude= and includepkgs= (or exclude= and yum-plugin-priorities) to load only those packages from the CentOSPlus repository.

Please ensure that you understand all these concepts before you use the CentOSPlus repository.

Близо година след първата ми инсталация на Xfce в CentOS 8:

 - вече има доста пакети в EPEL;

 - проблемът с инсталацията на lightdm не е решен, въпреки протестите в нета;

Някои използват по-тежкия GDM, други - SDDM, но аз си държа на LIghtDM.  

 

Нова инсталация.

 - минимална:

http://mirrors.neterra.net/centos/8/isos/x86_64/CentOS-8.2.2004-x86_64-minimal.iso

 - по време на инсталацията, в настройките за избор на софтуер, задавам само "минимална" и нищо друго;

 - след като зареди обновявам и рестартирам;

 - зареждам от друга система (може и Live disk) и добавям в:

bashrc           -  бързите команди

bash_history - командите - понеже не желая да ги пиша. 

yum.repos.d.7z - и допълнителни хранилища - Fedora, Opera ...

 - връщам се в новата инсталация и подкарвам командите. Редът е важен.

Избрах версията на Xfce от Fedora 32, а накрая дори обнових и с тази от Fedora 32 Update.

В крайна сметка имам стабилността и лекотата на CentOS  +  графичната среда Xfce и някои приложения от EPEL и Fedora.

И преди съм го писал:

CentOS зарежда на моя лаптоп близо десетина секунди по-бързо от Fedora.  И припкааа. 

 

Започнах с Fedora 29 и стигнах до Fedora 32 Updates.

Да, малко по-трудна инсталация (на XFCE с LightDM, не на GNOME), но след това само леки обновления един-два пъти месечно и свиркане.
